Billie Eilish – When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?

Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell; known simply as Billie Eilish, released her debut studio album “When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”, on March 29, 2019.

I recently picked up a copy from a little record store called Walmart and was pleasantly surprised when I realized I had a color pressing. The label describes the color as “pale yellow” but looks a lot more like apricot to me. Nevertheless, the jacket has a beautiful/minimalist aesthetic, with a nice fat/legible spine.

The album unsurprisingly debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200; with 313,000 “album equivalent units” of which 170,000 were pure album sales. The 17-year-old Eilish co-wrote the album with her older brother Finneas Baird O'Connell age 22.

Finneas plays guitar for the album, provides background vocals; along with helping create the songs. These siblings make an extraordinary pair, and have created a dark, brooding, eclectic, ass-shaking LP. Billie’s voice is so refreshing & relaxing, and occasionally as awkwardly beautiful as her fashion sense. Moreover, she reminds me of those old jazz/piano bar singers; invoking thoughts of Ella Fitzgerald & Billie Holiday. I think it’s safe to say; Billie and her big brother are going to be around for a while, and I’m excited to see what they create next!
